The Libri Foundation (http://www.librifoundation.org/) accepts applications for its BOOKS FOR CHILDREN grants. The Libri Foundation is a nationwide, non-profit organization which donates new, quality, hardcover books to small, rural public libraries. If you are extremely talented, have a unique and far-reaching program, and a track record in implementing national grants, you may well be able to successfully apply for an win these grants. | Postal Book Fairies | ||

Thousands of undeliverable mail-ordered books destined for the dump have found a home on cash-strapped Virginia library shelves thanks to the Norfolk regional post office. In a single day, the post office receives up to 500 misaddressed or refused books. According to Collection Development Manager Randy Miller, Norfolk Public Library receives about 450 of these titles monthly. And Virginia Beach Public Library has used some 900 of the 5,500 books -- valued at more than $12,000 -- picked up since last spring, said Collection Management librarian Toni Lohman. The Friends of the Tucson-Pima Public Library recently completed a 2-year planning effort which resulted in the adoption of a 2004-2007 Strategic Plan for the Friends. The Strategic Plan outlines the priorities that the Board will focus on in the coming years to grow the organization.
